Hillsview Farms was established in January 1991 when Darwin and Cindy Aman purchased a farm near Hillsview, SD. Cindy started with 25 registered Polled Herefords and Darwin had 25 black baldies at that time. Since then our cattle operation has grown to over 400 cows, which remain about half registered and half commercial. After trying some other breeds in the crossbred herd over the years, we have returned to only Herefords and Angus and utilize that cross. We have found those breeds to work the best within our program.
In the last 10 years, our registered Polled Hereford herd has greatly improved. The udder quality and milk flow has improved significantly largely due to two herd sires we are still using. HPH 10H Skylar 405S and SM Upload 26 have made a great impact on our cow herd. Their daughters maintain themselves, wean a large percentage of their body weight, and breed back.
We have sold bulls private treaty since 1991 when we first moved to our current location. Our bull offering keeps improving and growing in quantity. We sell most of our bulls as two year olds and summer them on grass. We grow them out on a high roughage diet to insure good feet and longevity. We try to produce the type of bulls that can maintain and thrive in harsh conditions.
We also offer registered females for sale, as well as commercial Herefords and baldies. We sell those private treaty at the farm annually. The baldy female is a really hard cross to beat for maternal power and disposition.
