The type of female we have strived for is moderate, keeps her condition easily, and has an ideal udder. We also look at the scrotal circumference (SC) EPD and and the maternal calving ease (MCE) EPD. SC is an indication of fertility in females— the larger the SC, the earlier age of puberty. MCE is so important because it indicates how easily the daughters will calve at 2 years of age.
In the last 10 years, our herd has greatly improved. The udder quality and milk flow has improved significantly largely due to two herd sires we are still using. HPH 10H Skylar 405S and SM Upload 26 have made a great impact on our cow herd. Their daughters maintain themselves, wean a large percentage of their body weight, and breed back.
Our younger cows have been outperforming the older ones so we are excited about having a young, productive cow herd. The young cows pictured all have daughters sired by DKF RO Cash Flow 0245 ET. We are anxious to see his influence in our cow herd. |
